Meet Ayu who is involved in tourism, lectures on Bintan Islands, Indonesia, and is a passionate advocate for the conservation of the Bintan langur primates.
The My Mentor is a nonprofit program committed to guiding rising stars in conservation, the environment, and sustainability with personalized guidance.
Over the years, while engaging in research and teaching in high biodiversity areas, I noticed a knowledge gap in professional development critical to career advancement and leading conservation initiatives.
My Mentor meets the need to train emerging conservation leadership on professionalism, talent development, and strong communication.
One million species are going extinct globally, 65% of primate species are in peril. My mission is to support young professionals engaged with addressing these serious environmental challenges.

My Mentor offers a tailored consulting, training, and mentoring experience. I engage closely with young professionals to help define their professional vision, harness their unique talents, strengths, and skills to fulfill that vision, master a distinctive suite of communication abilities—including the art of storytelling—and embrace the role of mentor themselves to lay down the foundations for the next wave of environmental advocates. The result is laser focus and improved effectiveness to take conservation initiatives strategically, with confidence, authority and credibility in their fields.

The 1:1 coaching style sessions are more effective than typical group training and are a safe space for confidential, customized support and dialogue. The aim is to accelerate young leaders' development through monthly mentoring themes, crafting mission, identifying unique strengths, mastering strategic communication, and preparing them to mentor others. Sessions are reinforced with tailored resources.
In 2024, I have run two 4-month cohorts with 26 mentees from six countries: Madagascar, Kenya, Suriname, Vietnam, the Bintan Islands (Indonesia), and Sumatra (Malaysia), guiding them to achieve impressive outcomes.
Mentees developed tourist educational materials to raise conservation awareness, secured graduate school funding, improved leadership skills, and confidently engaged with diverse stakeholders. They applied new techniques to advance leadership abilities, helping them challenge authority, navigate organizational restructuring, and inspire others through storytelling.
Mentorship transforms lives, building confidence, motivation, and leadership, though its impact can be hard to measure. That's why securing funding for these transformative, intangible outcomes is so vital.
